International Travellers are Required to Declare their Cash

Did you know that under Australian Law, you can carry an unlimited amount of cash in and out of Australia?

If you need to carry $10,000 or more Australian dollars or equivalent in foreign currency, you must first declare it by completing an online form.

Authorities are wanting to remind people of this situation, to help airports run smoother with less hold ups by having the traveller declare the cash through an online form before travelling.

A joint media release from the Australian Border Force (ABF), Australian Federal Police (AFP) and AUSTRAC was issued reminding travellers that AFP and ABF were continuing to observe international travellers with undeclared currency, particularly at Sydney International Airport.
